PunjabSub:GREEN PUNJAB MISSION : Compulsory Plantation of Trees
Dear Sir
I am writing this letter to give a suggestion to involve youth in making Punjab green once again. I will first explain what Phillipines has done.
“The Philippines has taken its tradition of planting a tree on graduation day as a ceremonious gesture a tad bit serious. The island country passed a law under which every student has to mandatorily plant 10 trees in order to get their graduation degree. The rule, if implemented properly, will ensure that over 175 million trees will be planted every year.
The bill known as ‘Graduation Legacy for the Environment Act’ has been unanimously passed by the House of Representatives, Philippines. The law will be applicable for college, elementary, and high school students as well.”
Now keeping the above as a backdrop we can also bring in a bill on similar lines. In fact the tree plantation should be a four stage process
1.Tree Plantation at correct place where it grows unhindered (unlike in Municipal Corporation where row of trees is always planted under electric wires to be hacked mercilessly every 6 months by PSPCL TREE PRUNING CONTRACTOR)
2.Tree Saving from adversities
3.Tree Looking after or nurturing including nutrition, irrigation and plant protection.
4.Grown Tree Care :after full growth includes tree training including trimmings and pruning.
So we need to involve the following departments i.e local government, school,College, technical and higher education , Irrigation and Drainage, forest and rural development. All the education departments of school , college, higher and Universities will provide requisite voluntary manpower and the rest of departments like forest, rural development, local government, Drainage and irrigation will provide space and place to plant trees. This will require coordination by Forest and Education Ministers.
We can modify this a little by asking school students to start planting trees when they pass out from class 5.
Each student when he passe out from +2, degree, diploma, post graduation must plant and nurture 10 plants genuinely to receive his or her degree/diploma/certificate because all trees will be geo tagged to find out actual numbers, planting time, survival ,type and nurturing.
Hoping that you initiate a legislation to put the above proposal by taking a decision in your cabinet.
With Regards
Yours Sincerely
