Sub.: Legal Notice with respect to above TV Serial demeaning, insulting, spreading hatred and targeting the Sikh Community by showing the Villain putting a Car Tire around the body of TV Serial Artist Sardar Roshan Singh Sodhi, reminding the Sikh Community of the most heinous and painful genocide of Sikhs in year 1984 at Delhi, which has deeply hurt the sentiments of Sikh Community.

I am a Amritdhari Gursikh Practicing Advocate at Delhi High Court and District Courts and a Team Member of Sikh Legal Aid comprising of Sikh Advocates.
On behalf of Sikh Legal Aid and the aggrieved Sikh Sangat / Sikh Community at large, I hereby serve your Sony (SAB) TV Channel and the Director and Producer of TV Serial “Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma” with this Legal Notice on the above subject and draw your attention to the following facts:
1) That the undersigned has been watching Sony Sab TV Serial “Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma” for past two/three years and noticed that the Sikh character in the said TV Serial – Sardar Roshan Singh Sodhi has been generally shown as a person with less intellect /understanding and generally getting drunk. It has been shown that Sikhs are always craving for liquor. By depicting the Sardar Character in such a manner, the TV Serial is demeaning, insulting and misrepresenting to the General Public that Sikhs have low IQ and love liquor. Which is false and incorrect. Our Sikh Community is shown in the said TV Serial in a negative manner. The majority of Sikhs are “Amritdhari” and follow the Teachings of our Gurus and “Rehat Maryada” of Sikh Faith, which strictly forbids consumption of liquor and cigarettes.
2) That in recent Episodes (September end – October beginning), just before the Shri Ganesh Ji Episodes, the Villain is shown as taking control of all residents of “Gokuldham” and when Sardar Roshan Singh Sodhi objects to them, the Villain puts a Car Tire around the body of Sardar Roshan Singh Sodhi. This act has reminded our Sikh Community of how people attacked our Sikh Community and similarly put Car Tires around the body of Gursikhs and burnt them alive in 1984 genocide at Delhi and other States of India.
3) That the entire Sikh Community is deeply hurt and pained by such portrayal of Sikh character in the Serial by the Director & Producers of this TV Serial and as approved and Telecasted by your Sony Sab TV Channel with malicious intent and motive causing the Sikh Community mental agony by reminding us of the pain and loss of our innocent loved family members. All of you are jointly and severally liable for these malicious acts and particularly your Sony Sab TV Channel giving approval to such Serial and telecasting the same PAN India.
In my personal capacity and on behalf of my Colleague Advocates of Sikh Legal Aid and the Sikh Community, I hereby call upon your Offices, Directors and Producers of Sony Sab TV Serial “Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma” to immediately remove all scenes in the Episodes showing the Villan putting the Car Tire around the body of Sikh Character Sardar Roshan Singh Sodhi from all Social Media Platforms archives and cease and desist from showing such scenes or any scene demeaning and insulting Sikh Community in future.
Tender unconditional written apology to Shri Akal Takhat Sahib, Amritsar (with cc to us) within Two days of receipt of this Legal Notice, failing which, we, as a Team of Sikh Advocates, shall be constrained to initiate appropriate Civil and Criminal action against your Channel and the Director and Producers of Sony Sab TV Serial “Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma”.
